F.O.C.U.S. Policies

F.O.C.U.S :

· Voice: Will work toward strengthening students’ voice in the UniSA Community by introducing forums and follow up mechanisms between students and their elected representatives. Issues raised will be presented to the appropriate UniSA department so it can be resolved

· Interaction: Is determined to advocate for the creation of better interaction programs between domestic and international students by holding events; such as Multicultural Week, which will be a week long fair promoting cultural diversity in UniSA.

· Radio: Will lobby UniSA to establish UniSA/radio. UniSA’s own radio broadcasting service will create job placements, student experience, and increase communication and information dissemination to and from students.

· Funding: Will advocate for and support the abolition of Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU). If VSU abolition was to be achieved, it will enable Unilife to support more student activities as there will be more funding available.

· Self Defence: Is determined to advocate for the introduction of Safety awareness programs for UniSA staff and students.

· Training: Will advocate for holding ‘disability awareness’ training programs for students and staff, educating people to communicate with and assist students with disabilities more effectively.

· Disability Support: Advocates for the improvement of facilities for people with disabilities. Including more dedicated car parks and computers on campus.

· Safety: Is determined to work towards the improvement of Safety on Campus. We will lobby with the university to re-introduce the escort services in Mawson Lakes and strengthen the security services on all campuses.

· Accommodation: We will lobby with UniSA and relevant agencies to work towards the improvement of the accommodation services for UniSA students.

· Environment: Advocates for sustainable ecology and more efficient use of green energy on all campuses.

· Charity: Strongly supports activities promoting charity events; cancer awareness, tsunami relief and more.

· Health: Will lobby with UniSA and the Division of Health and sciences as well as with medical providers around UniSA to provide medical services on UniSA campuses.

· Student Involvement: Is determined to increase student involvement in activities, both sporting and non-sporting, by seeking additional external funding to support these activities.

· Study Resources: We will advocate and lobby with the university to further increase the library operating hours, especially on weekends.
